The trailers were being emptied
in this early morning shot of the M.A.R.C.S. Beautiful grass field near
Madison Wisconsin. I had the great pleasure of attending this "first"
Warbirds Over Dane and it will be a permanent mark on my calendar from
now on. The Madison Area Radio Control Society sponsored this event and
produced perfect weather with only a 5 to 10 mph quartering cross breeze
blowing. The warbirds that came were all very well done and flown with
skill making each flight one to watch. Because of the near perfect weather
the air was always full of planes. It was a good time and a chance to
see some old friends and great warbirds. |
 |
Looking to the East the warbirds began to line up. |
The M.A.R.C.S. shelter kept you in the shade and provided
a great place to watch the flying from. |

The frequency control was superb. |
Eric Ramsey from Lake Mills Wisconsin and his Mick
Reeves Spitfire. This gorgeous model flew at 15lbs with a Saito 150
four cycle. Eric knows Spitfires very well as he was a Cadet in the
R.A.F. in WWII.

Chuck Bachman assembles his Platt Mustang. Chuck
modeled this warbird after a real one named "Velma", he has
been lucky enough to meet the real planes pilot and crew chief and namesake
Velma!

Tom Lazar from Marshall Wisconsin displays his fine looking
Yellow P-47 bubble top. This fighter has sliding canopy and is powered
by a G-38. |

Tom again this time holding a fiberglass ME 109 assembly
from Classic Glass. Tom had most of the Classic Glass warbirds on display
including the Robart P-38 and a cool B-17. Tom confided that a 14.5
foot wingspan B-17 is in the works and will be available next year.
All the Classic Glass warbirds looked great and the fiberglass work
was flawless.

Calvin Goodrich from Burnett Wisconsin brought this beautiful
Grumman F6F Hellcat built from Ziroli plans. She comes in at 40lbs and
has a Zenoah 445 twin for that realistic sound. The photo does not do
justice to the fine workmanship in this model. Great warbird Calvin!

My wife and helper Deb relaxes after putting the our B-17
together. Deb surprises the newer guys when she gets out the wrenches
and assembles this warbird but after awhile they realize she knows what
she is doing and that she loves every minute of it. For more on this plane
