REALFLIGHT RC SIMULATOR

Notice

The planes on this page will not work correctly with the latest update to 3.5. To fly these planes correctly you must use update 3.00.430. Unfortunately if you have already updated to 3.5 you cannot get the flight dynamics of update 3.00.430 back, you must then reinstall Realflight and update to 3.00.430.

Realistic flying Large rcwarbirds for Realflight G3

What is Realflight G3? It is the premier rc flight simulator for pc. It uses photo fields and realistic physics. Almost all aspects of the available planes can be adjusted and changed. If you have a large monitor and fast pc you will get an incredible feeling of being at the field flying your favorite plane, it is that real! Pictures shown are from actual screen shots from G3 with Sod Farm photo field and modified warbirds.

These models are modified from the standard planes in Realflight G3 to give you the experience of flying a large, heavy rcwarbird. You must have Realflight G3 and updated to the latest patch available through your automatic update utility in G3.

These modified models are far different from the standard plane physics in G3. If you takeoff to soon or to steep they could snap in. If you get to slow they will become unstable if the real rc plane does. The retractable gear are fragile and will break on hard landings. The planes will fly at a more realistic power and speed.

Good luck and have fun.

To install these planes into G3 just download the file, go into G3 and select Import G3X, find the file you downloaded and select it. To find the new plane in G3 go to Custom Planes on the plane list. If you have any problems please contact me here.

Realistic Byron B-25

Byron made a very small number of B-25's for his show Striking Back. These planes were never released as a kit and only flew in the show. The Byron B-25 had a 170" wingspan and weighed around 80 pounds. It flew better than any other rc B-25 I have seen and was beautiful in the air. You can check our Video page for more on this model.

This G3 model fly's very similar to the Byron B-25 and looks great in Realflight.

No addon needed, this model will work in standard G3 with latest updates.

Beautiful B-25 model and conversion by InkyOO, flight dynamics by Paul Grubich.

Download custom rcwarbird Byron B-25 and open zip on desktop. There should now be a GX3 file on your desktop for the Byron B-25. Go into G3 program and select "Import" from the file list. Select the Byron b25_EA.g3x file you have on your desktop. Go into the Custom aircraft select section to find it. Make sure your Realflight controller throttle trim is all the way up or you will not have full power

Color Scheme "Special Delivery" for Byron B-25. Download and unzip to your desktop, You should have a "special delivery_CX,G3X" file on your desktop. Go into G3 and select "Import" and point it to your new G3X file on your desktop. You should now be able to select this new color scheme when flying the Byron B-25.

Realistic F6F Hellcat

We bring you another custom plane for G3, the F6F Hellcat. This plane features folding wings and dropping external fuel tank. This version is modeled after the Ziroli kit and around the same size and weight.

This plane will work with standard G3, no addon needed.

Thanks to David Zurawski for the beautiful 3d model and to inkyOO who worked out the folding wings and tank drop and conversion to G3, and to opjose and Paul Grubich for the flight/physics model.

To operate wing folding use dual rate switch, to drop tank use upper left 3 position switch. This action is not fully perfected as yet so expect to experiment.

Download custom rcwarbird Hellcat F6F and open zip on desktop. There should now be a GX3 file on your desktop for the Hellcat. Go into G3 program and select "Import" from the file list. Select the hellcat_EA.g3x file you have on your desktop. Go into the Custom aircraft select section to find it. Make sure your Realflight controller throttle trim is all the way up or you will not have full power

Realistic Convair XFY-1 Pogo

Rcwarbirds presents our first custom aircraft, the Convair XFY-1 Pogo. This model represents a test aircraft of the US Airforce. The real Pogo flew many test flights and made many successful vertical take off and landings but was thought not practical for production. This model attempts to duplicate the flying characteristics of the real plane and will take off and land vertically. It will hover like a helicopter and fly like a jet. The real Pogo was powered by a Turbo Prop engine and had counter rotating props as does our model.

This plane will work with standard G3, no addon needed.

Beautiful 3d model designed and built by David Zurawski. Perfect conversion to Realflight G3 by inkyOO and excellent and very difficult flight/physics model by opjose.

Realistic Jeff Quesenberry Corsair

Now fly Jeff's Monster Corsar! Modified and enlarged Realfight Corsair looks and fly's very similar to Jeff Quesenberry's very large rc Corsair. Jeff's Corsair specs out at 152 inch span, 90 pounds, flaps, Husqvarna 240 twin for power, Menz 32-12 prop.

For the ultimate realism fly it just as Jeff describes it here:

"The Corsair is a real pussycat to fly, but I will try to describe it. Take off roll, without flaps, is about 150 feet. The tail comes up almost immediately, and I have to be ready for rudder. Once it gets about 10 feet off the ground, it will drop about 2-4 feet as it gets out of ground effect. To alleviate this, I now take off with 30 degrees of flap. The take-off roll is shortened to about 75-100 feet, and the tail comes up even quicker, but there is not sagging after it leaves the ground. It remains very solid. It makes for a nice looking take-off. I always take off with flaps now. It requires all of the right rudder I can muster to keep it straight on take-off roll. The rudder is very effective. On climb out, I have to hold about 40-50% rudder until my first turn to keep it straight.

In flight, it flies very light and will do loops, rolls, immelmans, etc. I have to use rudder in turns to keep the tail up or it will sag...no rudder = ugly turns. Ailerons are very effective and I always use high rates.

Setting up for landing, I reduce to 3/4 throttle and drop the gear, the drag is immediately noticeable, as the nose pitches down slightly. I retrim (no computer here...I do it like the real guys....manual). I then drop the flaps to full, 52 degrees, last measured, and again the drag is very evident. The nose baloons up slightly and then pitches down slightly to a nose low attitude. I trim for slightly nose down and drive it all the way to the ground. I carry about 3/4 throttle of the edge of the field and then reduce to 1/2 throttle. I chop it to idle just before the wheels touch down. It hates 3 point landings, but will drive on to the mains very softly if done right. I only have one bounced landing in 50 flights.....Jeff

If using the Realflight controller set your throttle trim to high. This controller does not have idle only trim and mid trim will not produce full throttle. If you only set trim in middle position you will lack full power. To land reduce throttle trim to low.

You need Realfight add-on volume 1 to use this plane

Unzip to desktop or other place and run Realfight G3. Select Files, Import, G3X. Import both G3X files to get the color scheme.

Realistic 1/5 Scale P-51 Updated 3/16

The P-51 Mustang model that comes with Realflight G3 if first class. It has great detail and perfect graphics. It even has the main and tail wheel gear doors open and close! I modified this model to look and fly like the famous Byron Mustang. This plane features a four bladed 22" prop and a simulated Byron belt drive system with a Zenoah 45 gas engine. The large prop is turning slower but has more torque and this will effect the way the plane flies. The original Byron Mustang with Byron belt drive was slow and slightly underpowered but it was a great plane to fly and handled very well and the same is true with this model.

Land with some power and full flaps in a slight headwind and this plane will walk in and set down perfectly on the mains. Keep full up and a little power after landing as the Byron Mustang was prone to tip on it's nose.

This model will give you a good idea what the Byron P-51 Mustang with Byron belt drive and scale four blade prop flies like and reward you with beautiful wheel landings and scale flight speed.

If using the Realflight controller set your throttle trim to high. This controller does not have idle only trim and mid trim will not produce full throttle. If you only set trim in middle position you will lack full power.

Realistic 1/4 Scale 14' P-38
I have set this plane up to mimic a real 1/4 scale P-38 in flight performance. It will snap left if you hog it into the air, and it will also pull left on takeoff requiring some right rudder. This is a heavy plane with high wing loading and needs an easy touch at low speeds or you will snap it into the ground. At 96 pounds and 14 food wingspan it is an imposing machine.

Landings will be difficult because the large heavy rcwarbirds have fragile retractable gear and break off easily with hard landings. It is best landed in a headwind of at least 8 mph. For a challenge set up your wind to be quartering cross wind (not straight cross but angled). Make the wind 10 or more mph and practice landings. This will put you right into most rcwarbird events that I have flown at as they almost always have a crosswind and practice makes perfect.

To land this plane correctly you must bring it in under power. All real warbirds land with power and so do larger rcwarbirds. This plane will drop out of the sky or snap if the speed gets to low. Try taking off and pulling up sharply before it has speed and it will snap in. This is the downfall of many beginner rcwarbird pilots. Give it lots of runway and lots of speed and take of gradually.

The torque of those two 3w 120b engines swinging two three blade 30" mejzlik carbon fiber props yaw the plane left and you must trim to correct.

This is as real as I can get it for now so if you want to fly a heavy metal twin engine monster this is it.

You will need Realflight add-on volume 3 to use this plane.

If using the Realflight controller set your throttle trim to high. This controller does not have idle only trim and mid trim will not produce full throttle. If you only set trim in middle position you will lack full power.

Realistic 1/9th Scale B-17

Realflight modified B-17 modified to fly like a 1/9 scale model. This plane has a 11 1/2 foot wingspan, weighs 49 1/2 pounds and has a wing loading of 38 oz's. It uses four 91 four cycle engines with 15x8 three blade props. It fly's very gentle with easy landings. It does have torque from those four engines so there will be some left yawing. You will need full right rudder on takeoff to start. Like all large B-17 models this one is a real joy to fly even with one engine out as shown in the screen shot.

You will need Realflight add-on volume 3 to use this plane.

If using the Realflight controller set your throttle trim to high. This controller does not have idle only trim and mid trim will not produce full throttle. If you only set trim in middle position you will lack full power.
