Question 1: "Hello Richard! I am looking for photos of the prototype P-38 #67543. I can not find photos of an emblem and inscriptions on a cabin, wings and booms. Can you help me? With regards, Andrey"

Richard: "Hello Andrey, Here is a link which has the best pictures I could find while doing a brief internet search . I might add ‘Franklin Mint’ offers a 1/48 scale of the same Lightning I presume and you may get that from FTE enterprises. Good luck Richard"

Question 2: "I am looking for a color code I can use to get the right color red latex paint made up for the center of the roundels on my 1/4 Pup.I would appreciate your help as I am having a very hard time finding a good colour match that I can get from a local Home Depot or similar. Thanks Pete S."

Richard: "What nationality might I ask: French? British? Also, model type Sopwith Pup if any and what squadron it was assigned to might prove helpful as well...

I already. Checked FTE site and only WWI U.S. color chips available, so the search is on.  This being a black and white era means the probability getting down to a close “shade” of Red; then again computer imagery could ‘scan’ the old B&W photo and colorize it…just a thought.

Also try www.warbridcolors.com they might be able to help as well."

Question 3: "I have a Zero ARF I just ordered. What are some ways to make the finish look weathered? Thank You, Michael"

Richard: "Hello Mike, Probably the easiest and most effective technique is to lightly polish the surface with   #0000 Steel wool, typically polishing along the slip stream: from front to rear on all surfaces as you ‘Buff the surface...”. Depending on your technique you can really get some NICE results.

One word of caution keep those engines and motors clear of the “Steel wool dust…”

Question 4: "Hello Richard, I will be finishing my giant scale TF P51 soon. I have never finished a project this large but I have worked with glass and resin etc… for years. Most of the plane is sheeted but the rudder and elevators are not. So what do you recommend for covering the sheeted parts and the non sheeted parts? I was thinking ¾ oz glass with ZPoxy finishing resin or West Systems Resin for the sheeted surfaces. What do you think for the non sheeted surfaces mentioned above? Is Solartex an option for these? Thanks for your help!"

Richard: "Hello Mike, Though I have no direct experience with West Systems Resin ,all the press is good –Personally I swear by ¾ oz OR lighter glass and” Z Poxy Resin,”it is  an easy 50-50 mix and cures FAST-and sands easy Concerning the ” open frame work” rudder on the North American P-51  Solartex. Would be a good choice among many-Richard"

Question 5: "A friend and I are building a B-36, it has a 128"ws and sheeted foam. We are fiberglassing the wing now. We want to paint it, can you recommend a paint that looks good for this type of airplane. The version we are doing is aluminum and magnesium. Thanks Mike"

Richard: "Hello Mike, I suggest “Klass Kote”@ www.klasskote.com their silver it’s a 2 part epoxy, appears like aluminum and does NOT look like silver metal flake, it dries fast and sprays on very uniformly…further Klass Kote offers gloss catalyst which I would use over all on the wing as you stated and perhaps you all might consider the satin hardener to replicate the magnesium. Another thought is PPG products who have several factory shades of silver, if you will, that is used for high end German imports such as the BMW and has a VERY aluminum appearance depending on the shade selected. Though I have never used PPG it’s very popular and all ‘press’ has given it high marks. Richard"

Richard: "Hello Andrey, I did some sniffing around and found you a couple pictures of P-38 67543;  and sent images of one “California Cutie.”  I hope you received these photos Andrey, if not let us know. Richard"
